Unemployed people have lost their nearest job centre in a reshuffle of the service.
The closure of the centre in St James's Street, Kemp Town, Brighton, has meant local residents now have to go to the branch in Old Steine.
Brighton's other branches are in West Street and Upper North Street.
The Kemp Town branch was closed as part of the merger of Benefits Agency services and the Employment Service, which are being brought together under a new scheme called Job Centre Plus.
The branch offered information and advice to job hunters and lone parents but was not a centre where people could register for jobseekers' allowance benefits.
All 18 staff from the branch have been relocated to other branches.
The Upper North Street branch has taken on 11 and seven have been relocated to West Street.
More than 4,000 people claim jobseekers' allowance at the West Street and Upper North Street branches alone.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), which is responsible for job centres across the country, said the lone parents who had been using the Kemp Town centre for advice had been notified of the changes.
The three remaining branches in Brighton were within easy reach of St James's Street and the closure should not cause any travel difficulties.
A DWP spokeswoman said: "This is a better use of resources.
"People can now access the Benefits Agency services and Employment Service all in one place."
