Sussex took control of the Championship match at Lord's after bowling out Middlesex for 116 today.
James Kirtley and Mushtaq Ahmed both took two wickets, Jason Lewry also struck and Middlesex contributed to their own downfall with a comical run-out as the first division newcomers lost their last six wickets for 37 this morning.
Kirtley made the breakthrough in the fourth over of the day when he trapped Ed Joyce lbw with late inswing.
Lewry and Kirtley beat the bat regularly under overcast skies and the left-armer got a deserved reward when Abdul Razzaq fatally shouldered arms to an inswinger. It was the first of three wickets in ten deliveries which wrecked Middlesex's middle order.
Kirtley's late inswing accounted for opener Sven Koenig after the South African had held the innings together with 43 and Middlesex contributed to their own downfall in the next over when Paul Weekes was run out by the length of the pitch.
Mushtaq had Chad Keegan caught behind with his second ball. The leg-spinner wrapped up the innings when Ben Hutton, was lbw.
