A woman has died in hospital after she was hit by a car while trying to cross a busy dual carriageway near Gatwick.
Jodie Christina Patten, 24, was crossing the A23 on Saturday when the accident happened.
She was involved in a collision with a BMW Z3 roadster driven by a 28-year-old local woman at about 12.25pm.
The car was travelling on the northbound carriageway as Ms Patten, who had already crossed the southbound carriageway, began to cross from the central reservation.
Ms Patten, from Romford, Essex, was taken to the New East Surrey Hospital where she later died of her injuries.
She had started a job with an airline the previous day.
The BMW driver suffered slight injuries and was taken to the same hospital.
