History could be made at the Hove County Ground next Monday when the floodlights may be switched on in the event of bad light threatening play.

Sussex play Northants in the National League with a 1pm start but umpires George Sharp and Graham Burgess will be charged with ordering the use of lights if they think fit at any time during the match.

Sussex chief executive Hugh Griffiths said: "It is a wonderful idea because it ensures the spectators will get a full day's play unless it rains. It is our Open Day on Monday and we are expecting a big crowd so they will benefit."
