Worthing conceded two late goals in the space of 90 seconds as they went down 2-1 away at struggling Metropolitan Police in Ryman League division one south.
Fit-again Wesley Lopez looked to have put Rebels on their way to victory by scoring with an individual effort 14 minutes after the break.
Paul Rapps could have doubled their advantage on 63 minutes when he put the ball over after keeper Andy Kemp parried a shot from Andy Walker.
Met Police drew level on 83 minutes when, following a short corner, Richard Tarrant crossed from the left for Jon Daly to head home.
Symon James struck the winner from the inside right position less than a minute later after the Rebels defence was opened up.
This was a must-win game for the Met Police but they still need a victory at Leatherhead on Saturday to have a chance of staying up.
