Jimmy Quinn is quitting as Lewes manager. He will step down after Saturday's final game of the season at home to Windsor and Eton.
Since taking over at the Dripping Pan in 1998, Quinn has led the club to unprecedented heights.
They were promoted from division three of the Ryman League in 2001 and won the Sussex Senior Cup the same year.
Last year the Rooks were champions of division two and also reached the first round of the FA Cup, the final of the Sussex Senior Cup and the last eight of the FA Vase.
Should Lewes win on Saturday and Bognor lose at Walton and Hersham, then the Rooks will finish runners-up in division one south.
Quinn insists his resignation has nothing to do with trouble at the local derby with Worthing last week.
He said: "I have plans for later in the summer and if they come off I probably won't be around for pre-season or the start of the season. To be fair to the club it is better to tell them now that I cannot give the commitment the job needs.
"I am proud of what I have achieved. It is a team game and I am only part of a team but I am proud of the progress the club has made over the last five years.
"When I leave on Saturday the club will be in the best shape in its history."
