Where is the most beautiful place in Sussex? To me it is Falmer pond. The Downs, although attractive, are bare and windswept with almost no water and very few trees. Falmer pond is a unique oasis, a green lung on the edge of the urban sprawl nearby.
The sunrise or sunset over the pond, with reflections of pink, orange or purple in the water, is beauty beyond comparison.
The peace and tranquility of this beautiful pond, with the flowers, trees and ducks, must not and should not be destroyed.
Will future generations forgive us for building a football stadium within a few yards of such a unique spot? Please, let us have Falmer for all - all who enjoy it and not just football fans.
Football is completely incompatible with the sheer beauty of nature.
Waterhall would be much more central and suitable site, with better road and rail connections, and would not destroy an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
To say that development should not take place north of the by-pass is ridiculous when the whole of Sussex University has already been built there.
Preserving the beauty of Falmer for us to enjoy now and for our children and grandchildren is far more important than drawing an artificial line on a map and stopping development beyond it.
