Jason Lewry will learn tomorrow whether he can make an immediate Championship return for Sussex.

The opening bowler suffered a broken nose and two black eyes after colliding with team mate Carl Hopkinson during last week's home win over Kent.

He is due to visit a surgeon tomorrow with hopes high he will be available for the game at Warwickshire, which starts on Friday.

Coach Peter Moores said: "He has a small plaster cast on his face and he will keep that on until he has seen the surgeon and it has been decided if he can breath alright."

Sussex have played down a confrontation between skipper Chris Adams and Northants bowler Andre Nel in Monday's National League game.

Moores denied their seemingly heated discussion after the Sussex skipper smashed Nel for six had been reported by the umpires.

He said: "They had a go at each other but it was forgotten at the end of the game.

"The umpires were fine about it. It was just good, competitive cricket."

Adams's century in that match is being seen as an indication that off-field concerns will not affect his run-making during his benefit year.

The skipper raised both arms in triumph after a hastily scampered two had taken into three figures.

He admitted: "It meant a lot because we have played on some pretty tasty wickets thus far this season.

"Everybody has felt in nick but the batting unit has been under a bit of pressure and I'm the main man out there in the middle.

"I've been feeling a bit under pressure wondering whether the benefit year was going to affect me and whether there was too much traffic in my head at the moment.

"To come back from a pretty disappointing nought at the Rosebowl on Sunday and bang out a hundred at Hove in front of a big crowd was very pleasing."
