A female petrol station cashier was forced to hand over cash and phone cards worth £1,500 when a man threatened her with a metal file.
The robbery happened at Harwoods in Pulborough yesterday morning.
The man, said to be 18 years old with a local accent, ran into the shop in London Road at 5am and selected a can of drink.
He took the item to the counter and demanded cash and phone cards before fleeing.
The man, described as dark skinned and up to 5ft 9in, has a medium to slim build, no facial hair and was wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt with white writing on it.
