Elite League no-hopers Belle Vue are ready to put another dent in Eastbourne's fading championship ambitions.

The Manchester club, beaten in their first dozen matches, broke their duck with a shock win over table-toppers Poole in their last home meeting, and promoter John Perrin is certain his side will notch another victory when Eagles go there on Monday.

"There is absolutely no doubt about it. We are going to beat Eastbourne," he said.

Perrin added: "We have had a rough time, but that win has given everyone a lift. We need to carry on winning at home, and I'm confident we will do that."

This is the fourth successive season the team with arguably the most famous name in speed-way have been down among the dead men.

It is hard to see why with the current side spearheaded by world No. 2 Jason Crump and including performers like Jason Lyons, Carl Stonehewer and Steve Johnston.

The Aces, only beaten in a last-heat decider at Poole this week, however, might just have turned the corner.

Eastbourne boss Jon Cook is well aware of the dangers lurking at Belle Vue, even though Eagles won there 49-41 earlier in the season.

"On current form, you have to say we are not Poole, and that suggests it will be hard for us. But we have got to start getting some away points on the board.

"If we lose on Monday, the alarm bells will really be ringing."

Eastbourne will have Billy Janniro as the guest replacement for Mark Loram, while Belle Vue are sweating on the fitness of Lyons, who had ten stitches in a groin injury after a crash in Sweden last week.
