It looks as though the undercliff walk behind Brighton Marina will be closed for many months while English Nature and Brighton and Hove City Council slog it out (The Argus, June 4).
The problem with this public right-of-way started two years ago after very heavy rain which caused chalk and flints to fall on to the path.
The cause of the problem could have been dealt with by draining the grass above the cliffs. Instead, it was tackled by fixing expensive and ugly steel mesh to the cliffs.
Naturally, English Nature doesn't want the same treatment to the mainly very old cliffs. Perhaps it could go to arbitration or bypass the section in dispute by creating a new path between the undercliff walk and the steel piling erected behind Asda.
Meanwhile, we would like our walk back.
