Homeowners in Eastbourne are being asked to check their property for a machete used by a robber.
The man threatened two women with the 14in weapon in Milnthorpe Road on May 21 at 10pm.
He held the rusty blade to one woman's throat and threatened to cut her if she didn't hand over her bag.
A resident has since found two rucksacks in a back garden and police now want others to check sheds and garages to see if the machete has been dumped there.
A spokesman said the man had distinctive big, brown eyes.
He is described as in his late 30s, about 5ft 9in and of average build. He had dark, wet hair, which hung down to his chin and wore a dark brown three-quarter length leather jacket, which appeared much too big for him.
Anyone with information should call Sussex Police on 0845 607090 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
