Students have been preparing to face one of TV's toughest quiz masters.

For the first time in more than a decade, a team from the University of Sussex has made it to the televised heats of University Challenge.

The chosen foursome have been brushing up on their general knowledge before they try to impress Jeremy Paxman.

The university last won the competition in 1970.

The Sussex team beat Reading in the regional heats to gain a place among the 28 teams selected for the televised heats.

Team captain Ros Levin is a mature student studying creative writing in the Centre for Continuing Education.

Jon Watson is doing postgraduate study in American history.

Dave Boyne, a second year contemporary history student, holds a science degree and Andrew Clay, a geography with development studies student, completes the team.

The shows will be on BBC2 in the autumn.
