Police are investigating an early-morning homophobic attack in which a man was punched as he lay on the ground.
The victim suffered bruises to his neck and face in the attack in Brunswick Square, Hove, at 3.15am on Saturday.
Local residents called the police after they saw two white men set upon the victim, who has not been named.
Witnesses told officers the attackers shouted the word "gay" at the victim while they assaulted him.
Inspector Mark Powles confirmed: "This is being treated as a homophobic attack and we would like to hear from any witnesses."
