A fun football match was held yesterday in memory of schoolboy Lee Richardson, who collapsed and died suddenly while playing with friends.

Dozens turned out for the fun afternoon held a year after 15-year-old Lee's death.

The Eastbourne Technology College pupil was playing football with friends near Princes Park, Eastbourne, last June when he collapsed and later died in hospital.

Doctors revealed he had died from sudden adult death syndrome (SADS), a little-known heart condition which was undiagnosed.

Weeks before his death, Lee, of Bexhill Road, had been celebrating with friends at the college's graduation ball following months of GCSE exam revision. He was a fit and healthy 6ft 1in teenager whose shock death inspired his friends and family to highlight the devastating effects of Sads.

The match at the college in Brodrick Road, Hampden Park, Eastbourne, was to raise money for the SADS Trust.

Friends, family and Lee's teachers also organised a barbecue, face-painting and tombola.

Rap music fan Lee was expected to achieve high grades in his GCSE exams, in particular in business, information technology and English.

He did not live to find out he had passed all of them.

He planned to study for A-levels at the Eastbourne campus of Sussex Downs College in Cross Levels Way before going to university.

His mother Lynn Richardson said: "Lee had the whole of his life ahead of him. We hope by raising awareness of Sads, some good can be done."
