Kemp Town carnival on Saturday was graced by fine weather as hordes of residents and visitors gave the area a cosmopolitan feel.

Roads were closed, with tables and chairs laden with food and drink spread across the streets.

South American band Amaru played haunting, dreamy panpipe tunes while people browsed around stalls.

There was a cherry pit spitting competition and drummers playing in St George's Church.

George Scott, 29, of Eastern Road, said: "I have enjoyed myself so much. It's so nice to step outside into such a lovely, festive atmosphere.

"Of course, we've been lucky with the sunshine but even without it I think it would have been a great day."

Fancy-dressed revellers, including Wonder Woman, Batman and Spiderman, could be seen strolling the streets.

Bubble car owners from across the country converged on Brighton to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the diminutive dash-around.

It was also the 25th anniversary of the Isetta Owners' Club.

About 40 enthusiasts met at Brighton station car park, on the spot where the Isetta factory used to make bubble cars.

Leonard White, retired secretary of Isetta and a director of BMW, unveiled a plaque commemorating the double anniversary.
