Home Secretary David Blunkett dropped in to shops in East Sussex today to talk to traders.
Mr Blunkett was meeting shopkeepers in the Government's Security for Small Retailers scheme at Warrior Square station, St Leonards.
The scheme provides deprived areas with technology such as CCTV to help safeguard retailers against crime.
The Government has pledged £15 million over the next three years to the project.
Mr Blunkett was expected to announce projects around the country which will receive cash from the scheme.
