New parking controls are being introduced in Horsham town centre from July 28 in a bid to stop all-day commuter parking in residential areas.

Residents' permits in the new controlled parking zone will cost £30 for the first year and £50 per year after that. Visitor permits will be available at 20p for two hours.

The scheme is headed by West Sussex County Council while Horsham District Council will manage the sale and administration of permits.

A parking shop in the town centre will handle daily inquiries and three additional traffic wardens will enforce the scheme.

Revenue from the sale of permits will fund the enforcement and administration and any profit will be used for transport improvements.

Twelve signs showing numbers of parking spaces in the town's central car parks will also be unveiled on the same day.

Contractors have been invited to put forward tenders.
