Firefighters who tackled a West Sussex woodland blaze for five hours believe it was started deliberately.
About 50 firefighters fought the flames at Rock Road, Storrington, after the alarm was raised at 4.15pm on Monday.
Children had been seen playing in the woods.
No one was hurt in the fire, which damaged three hectares of woodland.
A brigade spokesman said: "The fire appliances were in attendance for about five hours and periodic inspections took place throughout the night.
"The public is urged to be careful during hot weather."
Anyone with information on deliberate fires is urged to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
