I have just been told the committee on the Grant of Honours, Decorations and Medals has recommended the award of a General Service Medal 1918-62 with a clasp for service in the Suez Canal Zone between 1951 and 1954.
The Honours and Decorations Committee has endorsed the recommendation although the detailed qualification
criteria has yet to be approved by the Queen.
The letter also states that Veterans of the Canal Zone will need to apply in writing to the appropriate medal office but should not do so until
the full qualification criteria details have been announced. The bad news is it could take up to three years to complete the distribution programme.
