Dame Vera Lynn enjoyed the hospitality of Worthing as she joined hundreds of old soldiers on their annual visit to the town.
The former forces' sweetheart, who is 86, was among the top table guests at the London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled outing.
War veterans from all over the Home Counties arrived in 116 taxis yesterday.
They were met by mayor James Doyle, John Hawthornwaite, vice-chairman of the Royal British Legion, and residents of Gifford House ex-servicemen's home.
They enjoyed a sherry reception followed by lunch at the Assembly Hall, a visit to the seafront, pier and Pavilion Theatre and then a dance.
Association secretary Paul Davis said: "The weather was gorgeous. Dame Vera Lynn is the patron of the association and she is a great supporter of us.
"It was marvellous to see her. She was very willing to sign autographs and chat to the ex-servicemen. We really appreciate the support of the people of Worthing. They are very good to us."
