Potential sports coaches are being offered cash to help them through their training.
Worthing Borough Council has made £1,000 available and is allowing applications for a maximum of £250 per person.
Applicants must live in Worthing or have a long association with a voluntary club or group from the town.
Councillor Maurice Tucker, Worthing's executive councillor for leisure and cultural services, said: "I am delighted we are able to offer financial help to people wanting to get started in coaching or to develop their skills.
"Many people may think they could not possibly coach because the images we see on television are mostly of those involved in professional sport.
"Yet, in reality, we need people who want to get involved at grass roots level and here all that is required is enthusiasm and a willingness to help people.
"At whatever level you choose to be involved, we strongly recommend that you obtain a recognised qualification and our scholarships initiative can help ease the financial burden."
Application forms and more details are available from Julian Stevens on 01903 221119.
