Mid Sussex parents have won their fight to stop a school being uprooted and moved three miles across town.
Education chiefs at West Sussex County Council were considering plans to move 300-place Heyworth Primary School in Haywards Heath to a site at Bolnore Village.
But after months of protests by parents, pupils and neighbours, they recommended leaving the town's primary schools in their current locations.
On Tuesday the decision was officially given the rubber stamp by Sally Greenwell, Cabinet member for education and the arts.
It means Heyworth is safe for present but it's long-term future is unsure as the primary school situation in the town is to be reviewed.
Any decision will need to cater for youngsters at Bolnore Village.
Provision for a primary school at the housing development on the edge of Haywards Heath was included in the Local Plan.
But Tuesday's decision means children will now be sent to existing schools in the area.
Ms Greenwell said: "Many parents expressed very strong views during the consultation. I have taken into consideration those views before coming to a decision."
Mid Sussex district councillor Paddy Henry said: "It's great news for Heyworth."
