What a nightmare the London-to-Brighton bike ride caused to all motorists on Sunday.

Every road into Brighton was at gridlock.

What should have been a 15-minute journey to get home took me one-and-a-quarter hours. The roads are not built for this sort of event in and around Brighton and Hove.

It amazes me where all the cars which were streaming into the city managed to park.

Cyclists complain often about motorists, now it's our turn to complain.

If the 27,000 cyclists who were on the Brighton runon Sunday had to pay road tax as we do, maybe there wouldn't be so many - and think of all the extra money the Government would make.

That number of bikes at one time must surely create a bit of damage to our roads. It wouldn't be so bad if the council mended them sometimes.

It says it is short of funds, which is a load of old codswallop. Maybe if cyclists contributed a bit of revenue, the roads might be repaired more frequently.

I am expecting some strong remarks about my suggestions from cyclists but it's for their benefit as well.
