Ritchie Venner is not rejoining promoted Horsham for their British League premier division campaign next season.
Venner said: "Horsham have got four strong players in Adrian Moore, Dominic Hall, Peter Bartram and Andy Walker, while Darlington are strong enough to win a place in Europe."
Venner will still play for Sussex in the County Championships and in county events.
The London Progress club in north west London is now the nearest venue for Sussex fans wanting to watch British League action.
Horsham have no home matches following a change to the rules which means fixtures will be played over four weekends.
The only other major events within reasonable distance are the Sussex Open at Crawley Leisure Centre (October 18-19) and a new Grand Prix venue at Crystal Palace on January 2-3.
The University of Brighton table tennis club haVE entered a team for the first time in division 3 (south and west) of the British League. Seven players will be named, including John Clarke, the former Sussex champion from Brighton.
