A partially-blind solicitor is claiming victory after a ferry company pledged to give guide dogs and their owners equal rights.
Richard Schaverien, 46 and his dog Barney were last week invited on board a Stena Line ferry after the company agreed to sign up to the Guide Dogs For The Blind Association's travel charter.
The company's move was prompted by calls from Mr Schaverien for Brittany Ferries to change its policy on guide dogs.
The company insists Barney remain in the family car throughout 12-hour overnight crossings.
Stena Line, however, has pledged to treat all guide dogs and their owners the same as other passengers.
Staff are being given training and guide dogs will be able to travel free.
