Donald Macmillan enjoyed a drink of Guinness on the quiet and some champagne when he celebrated his 102nd birthday.
Mr Macmillan, who lives at Blatchington House nursing and retirement home, Seaford, was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
As a young man he worked for ship builders Harland and Wolfe before studying to become a chartered surveyor.
He married his wife, Patricia, in 1936 and moved to Seaford in 1971 to be near his nieces and nephews when he retired.
The couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in 1996. His wife died in 2002.
Mr Macmillan, who is an avid rugby fan and supports Ireland, also enjoyed strawberries and cream and was joined by his family for his birthday on Monday.
