Thousands of people in East Grinstead have voted against a plan to build more than 2,500 houses near their town.
In a town poll last night, 3,485 people voted against the proposals. Just 134 were in favour.
Turnout was 19.8 per cent, with six polling stations open between 4pm and 9pm.
The housing proposals are included in West Sussex County Council's Local Plan and involve building 25,000 houses in East Grinstead and between the town and Crawley.
