On June 14 you published two articles on improving pedestrianisation in the shopping centres and cycle lanes into Brighton and Hove.
If anyone doubts the need for more cycle lanes, they should try cycling on our roads. It's hair-raising. At the same time, as your correspondents frequently point out, walking on the pavements is made dangerous by cyclists, bladers, skateboarders etc. Indeed, some pedestrians are using the roads.
The main roads into Brighton and Hove are frequently blocked already but, when the weather is good, become jammed with tourists, especially when there are special events such as in the Marina on May 25 and Madeira Drive on June 15.
The situation will only get worse as the city becomes a more popular destination. Indeed, it might strangle itself.
For example, what will happen to the already busy Falmer Road and Warren Road if 24,000 people turn up at the proposed football stadium and 11,500 at the proposed arena at Black Rock?
If it's a sunny day and there is a big event in Madeira Drive as well, most people will never arrive.
This is happening while railway services are decreasing, there are no road improvements and no more park-and-ride schemes.
Perhaps our new council can sort matters out before they get worse. A traffic survey with suggestions as to how to deal with current and future demands is needed now.
