Plans to press ahead with a surgery and health centre in Eastbourne have been agreed despite fears from local residents.

The proposal to build the two-storey facility on a former landfill site near Elm Grove, Hampden Park, has been passed unanimously by Eastbourne borough councillors.

One Elm Grove resident said many householders feared increased traffic and noise in the cul-de-sac, where parking spaces are at a premium.

But deputy planning chairman Maurice Skilton said: "It's going to be a wonderful facility for the area.

"One or two people were worried about it being built on an open space but it is very conveniently placed for the people of Hampden Park."

The health centre includes seven consulting and treatment rooms and a parentcraft/conference room.
