A birthday Boygirl bash, a replica Stonehenge, an evening with Mr Mello and a good old-fashioned rock disco are all on offer this week.

BOYGIRL, Ocean Rooms, Brighton, June 21: Boygirl plays host to Something Special's second birthday party tomorrow evening. The main attraction is DJ duo Mutiny, who nearly caused one last time I saw them - supporting X-Press 2 at one of the Boutique's sixth birthday blasts. The best description is something like "Latino tribal dirty house with heaps of funk" - in other words, they ROCK. Steve Tennent, Marc The Funky Vet, Dave Lawson, Richy V, Luis Libres (Mr Bongo) and Pedro Martin (Percussion) will also be on hand to make our birthday wishes come true. It runs from 10pm to 3am and admission is £8 (£5 NUS until 11pm). 01273 699069.

POSITIVE SOUND SYSTEM, Concorde 2, Brighton, June 21: Sometimes you just can't beat the flyer. And I quote: "Magical times are upon us. As the sun warms hearts and minds, we turn to the moon in search of spiritual guidance on this longest day... or some such guff... As a tribute to ancient traditions of the time we will be building a full-scale replica of Stonehenge out of audio equipment and then worshipping the soundwaves we blast out." The "wizards of the locked groove" will be Simon Atkinson, Magnus Asberg and Kooki. Positive nights are always special and, if I wasn't DJing myself, this is where I'd be. 10am to 4pm. £7/8.

STOMPAPHUNK, Funky Buddha Lounge, Brighton, June 20: London-based DJ and producer Rob Mello has recorded, created and remixed more house tunes than I've had hot dinners. I was hoping tonight was going to be Derrick Carter night (he had been previously advertised as special guest) but Mr Mello is enough to wow the crowds. 10pm to 3am. Admission £8 (£5 before 11pm). 01273 725541.

REVOLVER, Brighton Gloucester, first and third Friday of every month: Even dyed-in-the-wool dance music fans like me need a bit of rock in our lives from time to time. Revolver features DJ Gremlin playing five decades of rock 'n' roll - or, as it turns out, just good music. So, you're going to find the Stones, Jimi and Bob (Dylan), nestling up against New Order, The Clash and Bowie, and, more recently, The Strokes ... all in four hours. 10pm to 2am. Admission £3 before 11.30pm (£5 thereafter). 01273 688011.
