Mr Lee (Letters, June 19), perpetuates the myth that road tax pays for the roads.
Cyclists pay for roads, too, as does every taxpayer, through local and central taxation.
I find it hard to believe 27,000 cyclists would create damage to the roads.
Most damage arises from 40-tonne lorries which cause tens of thousands of times more damage to the roads than the average car.
If Mr Lee is worried about congestion, does he really need a car for a 15-minute journey?
A double-decker bus carries the same number of people as 20 fully-laden cars, while taking up 1/7th of the road space (Source: TravelWise/Environmental Transport Association).
Maybe it's time to introduce congestion charging to Brighton.
