Residents in Mid Sussex will get to air their views in a Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?-style debate.

The District Council has organised the event to learn what people think are the main issues in their area.

About 160 audience members will get electronic voting pads to give answers, in the same way as in the "ask the audience" section of the Chris Tarrant-hosted TV show.

Councillors will use the technology at the event in Haywards Heath on Thursday and the idea is proving so popular the council has run out of voting pads.

Council leader Christine Field said: "We are restricted by the number of electronic voting pads we have.

"But there is still plenty of space for those who wish to come to the evening and participate in the debate, even if they cannot vote.

"The council is committed to involving the community as a whole in its work and it is through such events that it can learn what people think about the major issues.

"It is important as many Mid Sussex residents as possible attend to share their views and comments."

The State of the Area debate will be held at Clair Hall in Perrymount Road.
