What a weird letter by Alan Nunn (Letters, July 2). The Bible is 66 books, written by about 60 different people.

In its present form it was constructed from 84 or so different versions and some books, known as the Apocrypha, were taken out as they were thought not to be truthful.

It is dangerous to put too much store on one faith book, whatever its source, to the exclusion of other writings.

Christians in South Africa did and do advocate apartheid, as they construe the Bible says so. In the USA, there are Christians who are overtly racist as they read into the Bible that white supremacy is right and proper.

The fine eminent Christian Donald Soper said in his later years he had come to the conclusion that it would have been preferable if the Bible had never been written.
