Nitin Sawhney and his band appeared for the Worldwide season in a Dome transformed into an arena.
The performance was partly a stripped-down showcase of Sawhney's new album Human, with the leader on acoustic guitar and keyboards.
He was supported by bass, rhythm guitar and drums and Aref Durvesh, recently here for Susheela Raman's appearance, returned to add excellent tabla and vocal flourishes.
Centre stage was reserved for lead vocalists, some of whom appear on Human. Davinder Singh sang a stirring baritone counterpoint to three female voices, each of whom added their own distinctive quality.
Alongside the new releases were several old favourites, especially from his award-winning Beyond Skin: The Immigrant.
The tasters from Human highlighted Reena Bhardwaj's Hindi singing, including the duet with Singh on Chetan Jeevan. Tina Grace was back for the ethereal Fragile Wind.
Guest vocalist Taoi brought his rich tones to the new song Rainfall, with Sawhney's fine flamenco guitar playing prominently here. He has a natural symbiosis in his music.
