Southwick boxer Neil Wray has been called up for an England training camp in Manchester this weekend.
The light-welterweight will join up with the rest of the top English amateurs hoping to be selected for the full England side to compete in a Commonwealth Federations tournament in Kuala Lumpur in August.
Wray reached the semi-finals of the senior ABAs last season, crashing out in controversial fashion when he was disqualified for flooring Lee Beavis after the bell in their bout.
Wray said: "It is a bit of a shock. I have been on holiday in Thailand for two-and-a-half months just chilling out but I was missing my boxing and training and came back early.
"Coming back two weeks early has done me the world of good as the letter dropped on the mat when I got back."
Whether he will have his first meeting with Beavis since that controversial defeat is unsure.
Wray was well ahead on points when he was disqualified in his showdown with Beavis and his trainers were angry with the decision at the time.
Beavis would clearly be considered for this training weekend but it is understood he may have other plans.
Wray said: "I've been told by another England boxer that Beavis has gone professional which would be good for me."
