Two motions to limit the number of teams entered by Sussex in the County Championships to save money were rejected at the annual meeting of the Sussex Table Tennis Association.

But a third proposal to bring the decision making on the number of teams into the rules succeeded.

That means the Sussex management committee will have powers to make the decisions, based on a budget from the treasurer, from next May.

Ten teams competed in the championships last season which led to a loss of more than £800.

Delegates insisted there would be no restrictions on junior teams and junior organiser Peter Baldwin said he would resign if that happened.

The main thrust of the debate at Hurstpierpoint was aimed at restricting the amount of financial support for the third and fourth veterans' teams.

The only change in the elections of the countys officers for next season was the appointment of a new coaching secretary Terry Dean of Worthing.
