This weekend you're simply spoiled for choice, as long as it's Friday and you're in Brighton.
THE BOUTIQUE, Concorde 2, Brighton, July 11: Brightonian Dave Clarke is a true one-off. The cigar-smoking, brandy-drinking techno god is back on home turf for this Boutique appointment and is expected to quite literally blow the crowd away with his tough sound. Signed to Skint records, Clarke is one of the UK's biggest techno stars and should shine bright among friends. Fans of Compass and Red 2 might think they know what to expect but tonight is billed as an electro session in a nod to his current tastes and the latest trends. Although Clarke is headlining, the other news is Norman Cook is scheduled to make an appearance at his old stomping ground - which is no bad thing. These days, his club appearances on these shores are few and far between. He has done a lot for dance music and a lot for Brighton and, as long as he brings his copy of Benny Benassi's Satisfaction, he's all right with me. Clarke and Cook - now that's a nice pairing. It runs from 10pm until late. Admission is £8/9. Tel 01273 772770.
DA DOO RON RON, Sussex Arts Club, Brighton, July 11: You have to admire what DJs Chris "Da Doo" King and Si Bridger have achieved. There aren't very many (any) Sixties girl group nights out there and what they've created is simply femmetastic. This celebration of groups like The Supremes, Ronettes, Marvelettes, Shangri-Las, and the Chiffons, soul sisters such as Aretha and Dusty and playful popstrels like Petula Clark, has proved so popular it's celebrating its fifth birthday in October. Its also due to release a 50-track compilation CD but I wouldn't wait - go dancing on the second Friday of every month. It runs from 9pm to 2am and costs £4 on the door. Tel 01273 778020.
PUSSYCAT TROPICAL BEACH PARTY, Concorde 2, Brighton, July 11: Set sail on the good ship Pussycat for a night of totally tropical fun. Rob Tissera from Sundissential and Goodgreef will be hammering out throbbing trance and hard house alongside real-time video mixing from 2Ci. There'll be tropical beach dcor, free ice creams and prizes for the best costumes. Grab a free ride on the Pussycat Party Bus by calling 01273 821147. It runs from 10.30pm to 4am. It costs £10/8. Tel 01273 772770.
STOMPAPHUNK, Funky Buddha Lounge, Brighton, July 11: Mula DJ Senor Mick is on early doors at tonight's Stompaphunk and should be worth catching. Mula (the band) are about to launch their first single (tomorrow, outside Gemini Beach Bar, hopefully) but this is a good opportunity to have a tour through Mick's record collection. The residents will take over for the rest of the night and that's fine because when it comes to rocking the party they are the business. It runs from 10pm to 3am. It costs £5 before 11am, £8 after. Tel 01273 725541.
SUPERCHARGED, The Beach, Brighton, July 11: Supercharged's monthly residency at The Beach will be revving up to the sound of the Morcheeba DJs tonight. They should deliver an eclectic mix of tunes at this night which consistently features the best breakbeat and hip hop around. In other news, the label's Heavy Weight Breaks Volume 2 is nearing completion and, if it's anything like Volume 1, it will be worth splashing out for. 10pm to 3am. Admission £10. Tel 01273 722272.
