Thousands of revellers lined the streets of Littlehampton as a colourful procession of floats made its way through the town.

Glorious sunshine ensured the annual carnival drew one of its biggest-ever crowds.

Mayor David Dyball opened the event on Saturday and there were events throughout the day.

Spectators were entertained by marching bands and dance companies before the floats took centre stage during the evening.

Among the costumes was Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, a pack of playing cards and characters from the Wacky Races.

Freda Hughes, president of the carnival association, said: "This year's event was amazing and we were incredibly lucky with the weather.

"The town was absolutely heaving with people. I don't think I have ever seen it so full. There were thousands and thousands.

"We had lots of entertainment and bands came from all over the country. The quality of floats was very high."

Carnival queen Shelley Bone was attended by her princesses Tara Moore and Nicola Watson, junior princess Jenna Jeacock and flower girls Victoria Smart and Jodie Robins.

Mrs Hughes said: "Everyone had a fantastic time and the town was buzzing all day. All the money we raised goes to local youth projects."
