Sussex League: Horsham have closed the gap on Premier League leaders Hastings to 11 points and both clubs have eight games to play.

Horsham enjoyed a comfortable win against lowly Worthing on Saturday and Hastings were without a game.

East Grinstead and Three Bridges are also challenging following impressive victories, while bottom club Stirlands won their first game of the season at Eastbourne.

Chris Nash hit a maiden league century for Horsham in a a mammoth 312-6 declared.

The Sussex Academy youngster made 103 from 83 balls and his knock included 12 fours.

He received good support from Howard Kasey (44), Carl Hopkinson (42) and Luke Marshall (38). Danny Barton, making his first appearance of the season for Worthing, took 4-92.

The visitors were then dismissed for 180, with only Aussie Michael Quinn (48) and Ben Shelford (32) offering much resistance.

Pace bowler Chris Baker, recently returned from an MCC tour of Belize and the Cayman Islands, returned league best figures of 7-57.

East Grinstead cruised to a simple nine-wicket win at home to Brighton and Hove.

The visitors struggled against an impressive Grinstead attack as Stuart Simmonds took 4-53 and there were two wickets apiece for Alex Edwards, Tim Hinchcliffe and Richard Sims.

It could have been worse for Brighton as they recovered from 45-4 to total 165 all out from 51.1 overs as Patrick Spencer made 49 and Stephen Ades 29.

Sims, back from duty with Zimbabwe's one day side, hit 88 in Grinstead's 168-1 and Paul Harrison nade 34 and Steve Pollard 31 not out.

Three Bridges skipper Danny Alderman had a magnificent day in the 90-run win against Steyning.

Alderman made a top score of 71 in a 201-9 declared total and Krishana Singh weighed in with 38. Sussex paceman Paul Hutchison took 3-58 and New Zealander Mark Fraser 4-56.

Steyning them tumbled to 111 all out as Alderman took 6-25 and Nick Creed 2-7. Left hander Andy Ridley made 47 for Steyning.

Sussex all-rounder Kevin Innes made a rapid century and guided Stirlands to their first victory of the season with a seven-wicket win at Eastbourne.

Aussie pace bowler Shane Cleary took 7-45 as Eastbourne were restricted to 161-9. Jack Hepburn was top scorer with 39, Paul Stevens made 33 and Mark Tomsett 26 not out.

Innes cracked 106 not out, including ten fours and seven sixes, to take Stirlands to 166-3, skipper Sean Heather making 40.

Richard Halsall bowled unchanged for Eastbourne and took all three Stirlands wickets.
