Formula One stars Jenson Button, David Coulthard, Olivier Panis and Juan-Pablo Montoya joined thousands of motorsport fans for a weekend of high octane thrills at Goodwood.

More than 140,000 people visited the Festival of Speed's tenth anniversary celebrations at the Earl of March's Goodwood Estate, near Chichester.

The show reunited many cars with their original drivers such as Nelson Piquet, three times Formula One World Champion, who drove his 1983 title-winning Brabham-BMW BT52.

British legend Derek Bell, from Pagham, got behind the wheel of his newly-restored, championship-winning Alfa Romeo 33 TT 12 sports prototype and a Bentley Continental GT in the Supercar Run.

And Sir Stirling Moss was reunited with the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, which he drove to glory in the 1955 Mille Miglia in record time.

The three-day event brought together about 200 of the world's greatest cars, drivers, bikes and riders.

Historic cars such as Edwardian racers were on show alongside the latest Formula One cars, including McLaren-Mercedes, Williams-BMW and BAR-Honda.

The American Chaparral sports-racing cars were among the highlights. They were shipped over from the US before they are displayed in a Texan museum.

In the skies, the Red Arrows put on a display while on the ground, Mick Grant rode Barry Sheene's old Yamaha OW 48R in tribute to his friend.

Away from the action were displays showcasing hundreds of old and modern racing cars, a funfair, a military helicopter display and virtual reality games.

Bob Catt, 58, of Rectory Road, Worthing, said: "I come to the festival every year. I love it because it's the nearest I'll ever get to cars worth half a million pounds."

The show was also a hit with non-motor racing fans.

Tony Stedman, 36, from Tarring in Worthing, said: "I'm not particularly a motorsports fanatic but even I found it awe inspiring.

"We saw some motor racing celebs like Jenson Button and Derek Bell and it was great seeing the cars in action."

Among the famous faces at the event were racing legend Jackie Stewart, music star Jay Kay, of Jamiroquai, and supermodel Jodie Kidd.
