The new-look Eastbourne Eagles can clinch an Elite League play-off spot and then challenge for the title in the knockout phase, according to Nicki Pedersen.
That was the great Dane's summing-up after his debut at Poole where Eagles, beaten by 52 points in two previous visits this season, were edged out 47-43 in a last-heat decider on Wednesday night.
"All the guys worked hard, and there was a great spirit. I really enjoyed being there and hopefully I can help the team achieve things from here."
Pedersen had first-hand experience of the team spirit among the Eastbourne riders even before he turned a wheel for his new club.
He found himself stranded at Gatwick after flying in from Sweden when his van coming from his UK base in Sheffield broke down on the M1.
Dean Barker and Mark Loram, who had come into Heathrow, diverted to Gatwick to pick Pedersen up and take him to Poole, where he top scored with a paid 14 points.
On his own performance, Pedersen said: "I wasn't gating that well, so I had to fight for my points, but I think that's how they like it at Eastbourne."
Wednesday's meeting was Pedersen's first in Britain for three weeks but he said: "I'm glad I have had time to change my bikes and equipment. It is important to me than I am 110 per cent ready to make my debut around Arlington."
That is sandwiched between tonight's visit to Peterborough and a Monday night showdown at Oxford against the club who sacked him.
