Former British No. 1 Julie Pullin has quit professional tennis.

The 27-year-old from Hove has had a troublesome left shoulder for more than a year.

She said: "The time is right. I'm going to retire."

Pullin spent 12 years on the circuit, winning two national singles titles.

She said: "It's been on the cards for a while because of the shoulder but I now feel I will not be able to play at the level I want to any more and have to accept it.

"I'm fine. I'll know I'll miss the playing but not the travelling as I've had enough of living out of a suitcase. It is a relief in a way.

"I'll take a break with my first holiday in eight years and then consider coaching.

"I've no regrets. I did the best I could.

"The high points were being at the Sydney Olympics and my national titles.

"My low points would have to include having match points to win my first match at Wimbledon three years ago.

"Overall, It's been a great life but I'm moving on."
