East Sussex League: Matthew Bashford bowled lowly Heathfield Park to a second successive victory against Herstmonceux in division one.

Visitors Heathfield had posted 208-7 thanks largely to a seventh wicket stand of 77 off the last ten overs between Ian Long (35) and Alex Holmes (28).

Herstmonceux appeared to be comfortable in reply with Martin Menezes (54) and John Stevens (41) leading them to 117-4 and 143-5 but their last five wickets fell for 26 runs as they were dismissed for 169. Bashford, who was the fifth bowler used by Heathfield, did the damage with figures of 6-24.

Leaders Glynde were held to a draw at Newick in a match ended early by the rain. The hosts totalled 224-9 with stand-in skipper Sam Carter hitting 51, Richard Holland 43 and Rupert Thacker 33. For Glynde, Dale Tranter (5-28) cashed in as the lower order looked for quick runs.

Last week's bowling star Dominic Harris showed his potential as a batsman, with the 16-year-old hitting 38 in reply, but Glynde had only reached 130-6 when the rain came just into the last hour.

Second-placed Chiddingly had to settle for a draw at home to third- placed Fletching. Mark Horscroft (54) and Terry Lucas (51) helped Fletching to 100-1 off 28 overs but Gavin Sutherland (5-54) and skipper Tom Carr (4-32) applied the brakes and the innings closed at 198-9.

In reply, John Grieveson struck 57 as Chiddingly closed on 159-8, Grant Horscroft taking 3-13.

Crowhurst Park returned to winning ways at home to struggling DPB (Eastbourne). The visitors' innings was anchored by Ian Rippengal (71) as they recovered from 7-2 to post 191-7. Mike Higgs added 34 while Victor Walcott's 4-22 was the pick of the bowling.

Park looked in trouble at 58-3 after tea but a fourth wicket stand of 76 between Paul Lindfield (50) and Laurence Coleman (47) set them up for victory which was secured at 194-6.

Division two leaders Iden moved further clear at the top after a maximum points win at home to bottom side Battle. Brothers David (75) and Michael (74) White got Iden off to a flier, then Phil Shanks struck an unbeaten 67 to push the total along to 258-4. Ollie West hit 75 in reply but there was little support as Battle were bowled out for 127 with Chris Curd (5-33) and Paul Barnett (3-40) doing the damage.

Second-placed St Peters lost at home to previously winless Wadhurst.

Johnny Armitage (29) and Tim Moss (20) gave Saints a good start but the rest of the order collapsed to 118 all out once James Harwood (4-25) and off-spinner Graham Dean (3-23) got to work. Wadhurst made hard work of their reply but they eventually got home at 121-8 thanks to an unbeaten 37 from Mark Godsalve.

Ditchling went second following a comfortable 122-run victory away to Lewes St Michael's. John Atkinson (61) and Chris Atkinson (51) led the way as Ditchling posted 234-6, then Alistair Evans claimed 4-24 off ten overs to dismiss St Michael's for 112.

Stand-in skipper James Wise hit a second successive undefeated century as Hellingly amassed 264-6 away to promotion rivals Barcombe. Wise struck 115 not out, which included 14 fours and four huge sixes, and he shared in a crucial third wicket stand of 94 with Bob Pye (51). From 61-3, Andrew Allsobrook (55) and Gareth Clarke (24) dug in for Barcombe but Steve Vidler (3-32) and Dave Pye, bowling unchanged for 3-68 from 21 overs, kept at it and the hosts were eventually dismissed for 163.

Rottingdean were convincing seven-wicket winners away to Uckfield Anderida, who remain in the bottom two. Mark Grantham played the lead role, taking 4-46 to dismiss the hosts for 127 and then top scoring with 41 in reply. Andy Aylward chipped in with 38 not out.
