Angela Goodman incorrectly wrote of my confusion regarding council rents (Letters, July 11) but perhaps, after your front page story about Brighton needing £650 million just to repair its council stock (The Argus, July 18), she will understand why I was correct.

The figures given just for this repair over ten years would cost some £530 per month extra per property.

This Government has been honest about the situation and council house building is just not a sustainable option, as the figures now clearly demonstrate.

We should not get caught up in a now-unsustainable ideology of council homes. Someone who is homeless does not care what name tag is on the accommodation.

We do not need social only estates or private only estates or housing association estates, with the class stigma often attached to them, as there should be flexibility for those seeking accommodation.

All we need is homes.
