Eastbourne council hopes to save thousands of pounds through computer technology.
Staff and officers at the borough council will begin to implement the E-Government Strategy, in a bid to streamline the authority's ordering process.
Online ordering of items, such as stationery, will eventually take the place of paper invoicing and hundreds of documents will be scanned and stored electronically, reducing the amount of waste paper.
Councillors hope the strategy will save the authority £134,000 a year, for the next five years.
Councillor Jon Harris, spokesman for the environment, said: "This is excellent news, not only will this save the council a considerable amount of money but it will also drastically reduce the amount of paper we use, easing another pressure on the environment."
