Trevor Pateman has been a persistent critic of Brighton and Hove City Council's approach to parking (Letters, July 18).
However, many residents have welcomed the new parking schemes in central Hove and Golsmid.
Even residents in areas where schemes don't exist are requesting the benefits of controlled parking be extended to their neighbourhoods.
In recent consultations in Westbourne South in Hove and Prestonville in Brighton there was overwhelming support for new schemes to be introduced.
Even Conservative councillors who used to be vehemently opposed to residents parking schemes are working constructively with us in creating new ones.
Mr Pateman talks of frustration and inconvenience. This was certainly the case before controlled parking was introduced.
Illegally parked cars caused congestion on main traffic routes. Double-parking blocked emergency vehicle access.
Residents could not park near their homes because they did not have priority over commuters.
All that has changed for the better. Therefore the answer is "no", I won't be resigning.
-Coun Simon Battle, deputy chairman, environment committee, Brighton and Hove City Council
