Mr Goodliff has overlooked what was on the former gasworks site in Hove before building began (Letters, July 15).
The area was derelict and dominated by rusting gas holders.
Plans to regenerate the site include not only a new Tesco store but a modern, purpose-built primary school for the pupils and staff of St Andrew's who badly need a new building.
The new store is not out of place here. It leads off George Street, already a popular shopping area.
Junction improvements with Vallance Road will make life easier for residents, not worse.
-Coun Bob Carden, chairman Brighton and Hove planning application sub-committee
