Telscombe rider Mark Winton is fast becoming one of the county's top all-rounders, winning road races as well as track events.
The penultimate senior race in the Hove Park League, held over 40 laps of the 1km circuit, was only into its third lap when Winton (Lewes Wanderers) forced a three-man break along with Brighton Mitre's Toby Leyton and Jonathan Sharpe (Borcas).
The trio lapped most of the field although Surrey rider Darren Pembroke (Free Rider) managed to catch them after a long chase.
Winton led the sprint up the hill for the last time to win by a length from Sharpe with Leyton and Pembroke a further length behind.
Bruce Griffiths (VC Bayeux, Hastings) led the rest home. Leyton said: "I will have to find a way to improve my sprinting."
Winton has improved his own sprinting technique by being a regular competitor in the Sussex Track League at Preston Park. The previous evening he had boosted his chances of winning the senior league by winning the three-lap and five-lap races.
Upper Beeding's Kathryn McClelland (VC Londres) won the eight-lap race while her brother Sean won the Unknown Distance race. Anthony Rogers (Brighton Excelsior) held off Sean McClelland to win the 650-metre handicap.
Steve Dennis (East Grinstead) won the Southborough Wheelers 25-mile time trial at Maresfield in a fast 54m.57s.
Friston rider James Dear (In Gear) finished second in 55m.13s and Paul Woodman of Eastbourne Rovers was third in 55m.26s.
Dear said: "The wind made it really hard."
Forest Row's Sean Yates, a manager of the CSC team in the Tour de France, had high praise at the finish for his American rider Tyler Hamilton.
Hamilton produced an amazing ride to finish fourth overall despite riding with a broken collarbone sustained in a mass crash early in the race. He is being tipped as a future winner of the Tour.
Brighton Excelsior have a good entry for their open 25-mile time trial on Sunday. Surrey rider Gary Wells heads a field that includes Tristan Court (Brighton Mitre), Mike Coyle (VC Etoile), Steve Woodbridge (GS Stella) and Paul Woodman.
The headquarters is Steyning Leisure Centre and the event starts at 7am.
