I hope and pray a compromise can be reached to allow some open space to be retained on the patch of land off Redhill Close in Westdene, Brighton, without rejecting the suggested scheme for low-cost housing in its entirety.
The Sussex Overseas Housing Association is a non-profit making charitable organisation and has an excellent record in providing housing for those in need.
They are very careful in the selection of tenants and although some of these tenants are on low income, it is largely because they are elderly and infirm.
Since most of the residents would be disabled, it is doubtful whether an extra 200 to 300 vehicles a day would be turning out of Redhill Close into Redhill Drive at least twice a day.
They certainly would not be BMWs or four-wheeled drive vehicles.
Something needs to be done about the housing situation in our city and such organisations as the Sussex Overseas Housing Association and Braybon should be encouraged to play their part.
Otherwise, Brighton and Hove will become the home of the wealthy, while those on low pay or benefit through no fault of their own will be driven from the home of their birth.
